INFOGRAPHIC SERIES - Axe to Grind

11/11/2016

It was election week, lots of grumbling... and since people have a proverbial axe to grind, lets create an Axe!
Picture

Picture
Start with a circle, fill it with a color. No stroke.
Picture
Duplicate the circle, leaving less than 1/2 circle overlap on each one.
Picture
Select the LEFT circle and bring it to the front. Object>Arrange>Bring To Front. Then select the left and center circles, use the Pathfinder mode to Minus Front.
Picture
Select the RIGHT circle, bring that to the front, and perform the Pathfinder Mode Minus front on that.

Picture
Rotate the axe to 90°.
Picture
Duplicate the axe, fill with a contrasting color. Adjust the width slightly narrower than the original axe. Copy the narrow axe.
Picture
Select the original axe, select the Draw Inside Mode at the bottom of the Tool Bar (dashed lines show around the shape).
Picture
Paste the narrower axe and position it as shown. Click on the Normal Drawing Mode to get out of Draw Inside Mode.

Picture
Draw a rectangle with rounded ends, fill it with a dark color, then send it to the back for the handle.
Picture
Use the Arc Tool to draw an arc. Round the ends of the stroke and select a lighter color.
Picture
This creates the wrapping around the axe head with the handle.
Picture
Copy and flip the wrapping and position it on the opposite side of the head.

Picture
Copy and flip the wrapping to create a full wrapped effect. And you are done!

INFOGRAPHIC SERIES - SIMPLE PENCIL

11/2/2016

Here is a simple Pencil creation that takes a few simple steps and gives you a great pencil. Fast, easy, fun and looks great. I do so love things that are this simple and turn out this good.
Picture

Picture
Start off with drawing a rectangle, fill it with a color, no stroke.
Picture
Duplicate that rectangle. Click on it, hold OPTION and drag it down to duplicate it.
Picture
Use COMMAND + D to duplicate the rectangle again. Add a  fill in each rectangle to give it the look of shaded sides.
Picture
Draw a triangle. Use the Polygon tool, click and draw and while holding the mouse, use the DOWN ARROW to reduce the number of sides until you get to a triangle. Fill it with brown, no stroke.

Picture
Copy that same triangle, then resize it and fill it with black. Align it with the tip of the triangle.
Picture
Place both triangles at the end of the sets of rectangles.
Picture
Create the eraser by drawing a rectangle the height of the 3 rectangles of the body of the pencil.
Picture
Use the Direct Selection Tool to select the left 2 corners and highlight the corner widgets to round the corners.

Place the eraser in place at the end of the pencil. You are done!
