Summer is here, or very close. Fruity drinks and sweet goodness prevails. Here is a quick way to create different cross-sections of fruit using Illustrator.
Picture

Picture
Start with a circle, ad a darker stroke than the fill color.
Picture
Using the Polygon tool, draw a triangle. Draw with the polygon tool and while drawing, use the DOWN ARROW to reduce the number of side.
Picture
Use the Direct Selection Tool to select the top point of the triangle and use the up arrow to move the point up.
Picture
Select the triangle with the Direct Selection Tool, and using the corner widgets, pull in the corners a very small amount to round the corners.

Picture
Use the Curvature Tool (looks like the Pen Tool with a tail) and click and pull on the lower edge to curve the lower edge.
Picture
Select the shape with the Selection Tool, then choose the Rotate Tool and OPTION + CLICK slightly above the top point of the triangle. This sets the point of rotation and opens the Rotate dialog box.
Picture
I set the rotation to 40° to get the shapes to fit together. Then click COPY (not OK) to duplicate it.
Then use
COMMAND + D to duplicate the slices around the circle.
Picture
Move the shapes into the original circle to create and orange.

Picture
Remove the border, change the colors to green to create a lime.
Picture
Then take the lime and turn it into a lemon.
Picture
To create a watermelon, create a circle with a light green center and darker green thin border.
Picture
Inside, draw another circle fill it with a pinky red.

Picture
To create the seeds, draw a circle and fill it with a dark color.
Picture
Use the Direct Selection Tool to select the top point then move it up. Then convert the anchor point from a smooth point to a corner point in the control bar. This forms the tear drop shape.
Picture
Duplicate the seeds, turning the slightly towards the center points.
Picture
Select the group of seeds and use the Rotate tool to OPTION + CLICK above the group. This sets the center point of rotation and opens the Rotate Dialog box.

Picture
Set the rotation to 60° the click COPY.
use COMMAND + D to duplicate the set around the center 5 more times.
Picture
Place the seeds on the watermelon center.
Picture
Select the center of the water melon and choose Effect>Blur (under Photoshop Effects)>Gaussian Blur.
Picture
This is the soft edge effect that creates the inner core of the watermelon.

Climate change is the most serious issue facing humanity. The scientific community agree that human induced climate change is very real and happening now. In these climate changing times it becomes ever more apparent that our current way of life is not sustainable and that we must change too.
