Try  this snuggly teddy bear on for size. Cute, adorable and so easy to create. This one is a fun one.
Picture

Picture
Start the body of the bear with a rounded rectangle. Add a fill and no stroke color.
Picture
Create a triangle with Polygon tool. While daring the polygon, use the down arrow to reduce the number of sides to get to a triangle.
Picture
Use the Corner Widget target to pull in toward the center and round the tips slightly.

Picture
Cut the triangle (Edit > Cut). Select the body and click on the Draw Inside Mode at the bottom of the toolbar.
Picture
Paste the cut triangle into the shape. Click on the draw normal mode when done.
Picture
Add a circle for the head.

Picture
Add another circle for the ear.
Picture
With the ear selected, use Object > Path > Offset Path. Set the offset to -10 and click OK. This will duplicate the circle inside the ear.
Picture
Add a lighter color to the inside ear shape.

Picture
Duplicate the ear and send them behind the head. Object > Arrange > Send To Back.
Picture
Create ovals for the feet. Use the Offset path function like with the ears to create the feet.
Picture
Create a rounded rectangle for the arms.

Picture
Add the arms and send them to the back behind the body.
Picture
Add circles for the eyes and an oval for the nose.
Picture
Copy and paste one of the arms, Remove the fill and make the stroke a heavy weight.

Picture
With the Direct Selection Tool, select the upper and upper left points and delete them.
Picture
Add rounded ends (hot dog them) to the stroke from the Stroke Panel .
Picture
Add the lines under the nose. Copy and flip the hook to make the left and right sides of the nose.

Picture
Duplicate the head shape. Duplicate it again and put the copy a bit offset from the first.
Picture
Use the Pathfinder Minus Front Mode to leave this sliver. This will be the shadow for the head.
Picture
Fill the shape with a darker fill. Set the Opacity to 20% and the Blend Mode to Multiply.

Picture
Add the shadow to the head. Repeat the same steps for the feet to add shadows to them as well.
Picture
Add slip shadows to any of the shapes to help add dimension and you are done.

Thanks Jason, I had fun with this one.

I also experimented with using the distort "roughen" effect applied to the bears body to it give the effect of being fuzzy. I set it to a 1% "Size" set to Relative with 100/in on the "Detail" and my points set to "Smooth".

Question about slip shadows ... should one consider doing these shadows all on one side of the bear like on the arm & legs giving it lighting/shading effect or is a slip shadow just a feature to make the item pop out.

Thanks again for all the educational resources - huge fan of yours on Creative Live, as well.
